The Ride

Seven of us rode out from Tambaram, taking the Vandavasi–Chetpet route into Jawadhu Hills. A stretch of green rice fields with the hills rising in the backdrop, itched permanently into memory. The climb up was all curves and dense forest, through a mountain that still feels wonderfully untouched. Beeman Falls was dry as it was summer. So we parked ourselves by the lake instead and soaked in the calm. The hill was quietly gearing up for a local festival as we rode through. On the way back, we took the Vaniyambadi route just for the Ahmedhiya biryani and rolled into a drizzly Chennai, full and happy. Notes: Skip summer. Carry your trash back, it's fragile terrain. Beeman Falls only flows post-monsoon, so plan around the lake as backup. There is also an observatory. This is the 3rd time we couldn't visit it as it was closed.
